1. Do I need to bring my own hunting equipment?
Yes. Monquin Creek does not provide hunting equipment for clients, including firearms, ammunition, waders, scent blocker, and other necessary or preferred items or tools. We also recommend you bring a safety harness to wear when hunting from our treestands. It’s not needed when hunting our blinds.
2. Do I need to bring my own ammo?
Yes. Monquin Creek does not provide ammunition for our clients.
3. Do I need my own waders or other hunting clothing?
Yes. Monquin Creek does not provide waders or other hunting clothing and equipment for clients.
4. Should I purchase a hunting license?
A hunting license must be purchased by the client prior to hunting with Monquin Creek. Please visit the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources’ website for further information on the types of hunting licenses you’ll need.
5. Are there any other permits I should purchase in addition to a hunting license?
Please check the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources’ website for hunting regulations and other permits that may be needed in addition to a hunting license.
6. Does a wounded animal count as a kill?
Yes. If a hunter wounds an animal and our guides are unable to retrieve it, it counts as a kill.
7. Do you have a list of nearby hotels for lodging?
a. The nearest towns or cities with hotel lodging options include Mechanicsville, VA; Tappahannock, VA; and Richmond, VA. Please visit our Outfitter page for further details on lodging options.
8. Are there nearby restaurants to visit?
There are many dining options in our area, from fine dining to fast food. A few of our favorite restaurants include Shagbark in Richmond, Halterman’s Eatery in Manquin, M&M Pizza in Manquin, Route 30 BBQ & Grill in Manquin, Ripley’s Family Restaurant in Manquin, NN Burger in Tappahannock.
Fast food restaurants available include McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, and Burger King.
9. Are there other attractions to visit when not hunting?
Due to our general location in Central Virginia, there are many nearby historical and non-historical attractions to visit, from the Chesapeake Bay Region, to Northern Virginia. Please visit Virginia Tourism for more information.
10. How much should I tip my hunting guide?
We encourage our clients to tip our guides at least 10%.
